This 1959 musical was the final collaboration between Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II(lyrics) and is based on the memoirs of Maria Von Trapp (The Story of the Trapp Family Singers)

Many of the songs from the musical have become standards, such as 'Edelweiss', 'My Favourite Things', 'Climb every Mountain', 'Do-Re-Mi' and the title song 'The Sound of Music'. The original Broadway production opened in 1959 and was adapted in a 1965 film musical – starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer – winning five Academy awards.

'Friends of Jordan Festivals' launched the Amman Citadel Festival 2013 – which begins on 20th August until 10th September 2013 – promoting Jordan as a hub for art and culture. Among other performers, The Sound of Music will run for three consecutive nights. As part of the festival's commitment to social responsibility, one of the performances will be for the less fortunate and individuals with special needs.

As an effort in encouraging local talents and preserving Jordan's cultural identity, three Jordanian child performers are included this in this internationally-acclaimed show.
